CANTON — Chief Wendell Robery reports that the Canton Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm fire at a two-family home Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Feb. 28, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Canton Fire Department was called to 8-10 Pequit St. for a report of a structure fire.
Companies arrived to find heavy fire showing from a two-family home.
Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside and then transitioned into an offensive interior attack. A second alarm was struck, bringing additional resources and mutual aid to the scene.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to the attic of 10 Pequit St. The other side of the two-family home, 8 Pequit St. sustained smoke and water damage.
All residents were able to exit safely prior to firefighters’ arrival. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
The two-family home was deemed uninhabitable.
Five residents are being assisted by friends and family.
After the fire was extinguished, firefighters, assisted by the building inspector, removed the chimney which was determined to be structurally unstable.
Firefighters from the Norwood, Stoughton, Milton, and Sharon Fire Departments provided mutual aid at the scene. Randolph, Westwood and Walpole Fire provided station coverage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Canton Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
