CANTON — Chief Wendell Robery reports that the Canton Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Nancy Circle last night.
At 5:10 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, Canton Fire Engine 2 responded to a report of a house fire at 6 Nancy Circle. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from the rear basement window of the single-family home.
The home was unoccupied at the time. Firefighters rescued a dog and a rabbit from the home.
Members of the Stoughton Fire Department, Sharon Fire Department, Norwood Fire Department, and Foxborough Fire Department responded to the scene to assist. Station coverage was provided by the Westwood Fire Department.
Damage was contained to the home’s basement and the fire was declared under control at 5:34 p.m.
The home was deemed uninhabitable. Three residents were displaced and are being assisted by family members and friends.
One Canton Police Officer was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and was treated and released.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Canton Fire Department.
